Historic Fernandina Beach Downtown

Fernandina Beach is a Victorian seaport rich with tales of pirates, smugglers and gunrunners, and is the birthplace of the American shrimping industry. Explore the town's charming 50-block district of carefully preserved historic homes and buildings. Visit the oldest surviving hotel in Florida, the Florida House Inn, built in 1857…and the Palace Saloon, Florida's oldest continuously operating pub. At Fort Clinch, the past comes alive when Civil War buffs re-enact daily life around the fort.

The original site of downtown Fernandina Beach was at the Old Town area, which is the last Spanish city platted in the Western Hemisphere and still exists today. Later, the hub of the town moved to its present location when David Yulee established the railroad that ran from Fernandina Beach to Cedar Key.
